The Council of Gambler’s Help Services is the peak body for problem gambling counselling, financial counselling and community education services in Victoria.
CoGHS Mission
Through ongoing coordination, promotion, advocacy and support of Gambler’s Help Services, the Council aims to minimise the harm associated with gambling in Victoria, pursuing collaborative activities to improve responses to problem gambling. The Council is built on cooperation and a common understanding of the ways the community can be affected by problem gambling, and seeks a collective, representative, and pro-active approach to the support and improvement of our services and outcomes.
Core Principles
- Product safety as the key issue for reducing the incidence of problem gambling and harm associated with gambling.
- Destigmatisation of gambling as purely about individual pathology.
- Taking a united stance as a network of service providers in regards to the issues of importance.
- Demonstrating, documenting and verbalizing our expertise, and believing in ourselves.
- That we have an ethical and professional obligation to present the structural drivers of problem gambling behaviour through client information and clinical observations.
